Who we are

Northern Great Dane Home is a small, family-run Great Dane breeding program based in Northern Michigan, USA, operating the website northerngreatdanehome.com. We are the data controller for information collected through this site.

What we collect

Only what you type into a form, plus basic technical information every website receives.

• Contact and enquiry forms: your name, email address, phone number, city and state, the puppy or litter you are interested in, and whatever you write in the message.
• Puppy application: additionally, details about your household — housing type, whether you own or rent, number of adults and children, hours the dog would be alone, previous dog experience, other pets, and your veterinarian's practice.
• Purchase agreement: your full legal name, postal address, the puppy reserved, travel choice and your typed electronic signature.
• Newsletter: your email address only.
• Automatically: standard server log data — IP address, browser type, pages requested, referring page. We do not combine this with form data.

We do not collect payment card details through this website at all. Payments are handled separately through a bank transfer or a regulated card processor.

How we use it

• To reply to your enquiry and talk to you about a puppy.
• To assess whether a placement is a good match — which is the point of the application.
• To prepare and keep the purchase agreement and health records for a dog we have placed.
• To stay in touch for the life of the dog, which we regard as part of the service.
• To send litter announcements, if and only if you asked for them.
• To meet our legal and record-keeping obligations as a breeder.

We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling. A person reads every application.

Who we share it with

We never sell your personal information, and we never share it with advertisers, brokers or other breeders.

We share limited information only where it is necessary to do what you asked:

• Our form provider, which delivers form submissions to our inbox and does not use the content for anything else.
• Our veterinarian, for health certificates and records relating to your puppy.
• The flight nanny or transporter you choose — your name, phone number and the delivery address, and nothing more.
• The microchip registry, to transfer the chip into your name.
• The AKC, for registration transfer.
• Your veterinarian, if you have given us their details and we ask them for a reference, which we will tell you we are doing.
• Law enforcement or a regulator, where we are legally required to.

How long we keep it

• Enquiries that go nowhere: two years, then deleted.
• Applications that do not result in a placement: three years, so we can contact you if you asked to be told about a future litter.
• Purchase agreements and health records: for the life of the dog plus three years. This is partly a legal record and partly so we can help you years later.
• Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe.
• Server logs: 30 days.

Your rights

Wherever you live, we will honour the following on request:

• Access — ask us for a copy of what we hold about you.
• Correction — tell us if anything is wrong and we will fix it.
• Deletion — ask us to delete your information, except where we must keep a purchase record.
• Opt out — unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time, in one click, with no effect on anything else.
• Portability — ask for your data in a readable format.

Email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days. California residents have specific rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know and the right to delete; we do not sell personal information as that term is defined, so there is nothing to opt out of.

Cookies and analytics

This website uses no advertising cookies, no tracking pixels and no third-party marketing trackers. We do not run retargeting campaigns and you will not be followed around the internet by pictures of our puppies.

Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address as part of serving the request. If we add privacy-respecting analytics in future, we will say so here and it will be aggregate-only.

Children

This website is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has submitted a form, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS and form submissions are encrypted in transit. Records are kept on access-controlled systems. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you promptly if anything affecting your information ever goes wrong.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of the page. Material changes affecting families who already have a dog from us will also be emailed.
